Annual pro-life march a week away with 'Life is a Gift' theme

One week from today, tens of thousands of pro-lifers will be marching in Washington, D.C. to celebrate and defend life in the womb.

The 53rd annual March for Life will be held on the National Mall on January 23. This year's theme is "Life is a Gift."

As usual, the march will be preceded by a rally that involves a concert and speeches from pro-life lawmakers, celebrities, and activists.

Sanctus Real, the Grammy-award winning Christian brand, is performing at this year's concert. Events begin around 11 a.m. Eastern.

March for Life is held annually on a Friday in late January to coincide with the anniversary of the Supreme Court's ruling on Roe v. Wade.

Jennie Bradley Lichter, current president of March for Life, said the event began with a pro-life attorney, Nellie Gray, and her friends.

"They wanted to mark the first anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision with a peaceful protest and a march to the U.S. Supreme Court," Lichter recalled.

The landmark and controversial Roe ruling was announced January 22, 1977.

In 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the landmark Dobbs ruling that handed the issue back to the states and state legislatures.

March for Life will be live-streamed on YouTube, Facebook, EWTN, CBN, and the March for Life website.
