Exposure of Biden White House against pro-lifers was a long time in coming, Hageman says

A report this week by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) reveals the extent to which the Biden administration harmed the pro-life movement.

The report centered around how the previous administration weaponized the Freedom of Access to Clinics Entrances (FACE) Act and what the Trump White House is doing to correct that abuse.

The FACE ACT of 1994 prohibits the threat, intimidation or force of individuals seeking to enter and access reproductive health services and places of religious worship, also prohibiting the destructions thereof.

Harriet Hageman, U.S. representative for Wyoming, spoke to Tony Perkins on Washington Watch. She says exposure was a long time in coming.

“We held hearings on the FACE Act and how the Biden administration not only abused that law, but abused our pro-life community, if you will, with the persecutions and prosecutions that they moved forward with,” Hageman says. “The information we were bringing forth during the hearings has now been exposed for all the world to see.”

In order to prevent future misuse, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) introduced the FACE Act Repeal Act in 2025. Around 97% of FACE Act prosecutions since the law was enacted have come against pro-life Americans, according to Roy, which is why he is trying to permanently end the law to safeguard pro-lifers against future progressive presidencies.

Hageman is a cosponsor of the bill.

“I want to provide protections for our pregnancy centers, and I want to provide protections for our women. But at the same time, they've used the law to be weaponized against what they perceive as their political enemies,” Hageman states.

The pro-life movement, she says, has always been viewed as an enemy to the Biden administration and Democrats in general. She states that is why something needs to be done to prohibit the use and abuse of federal laws.

“Essentially, it's a violation of the Fifth Amendment, Equal Protection Clause, where they're only enforcing the law against certain people that they consider to be their political enemies,” Hageman says. “We cannot allow these laws to be used and abused the way that the Biden administration has done.”

Critics also point out the biased nature of the Biden administration, which is no longer a secret. According to the report, the administration worked with different pro-abortion groups, such as Planned Parenthood, to monitor pro-life activitsts’ activity in order to gather information and evidence for warrants and charges.

In holding the government accountable, Hageman points to the case of pro-life activist Curtis Houck. Houck was granted over $1 million in a settlement after the FBI raided his home in 2022 and charged him for allegedly violating the FACE Act.

“So that's one of the ways to hold them accountable, but then that's the entire United States having to pay for the problems that the Department of Justice created,” states Hageman.

Another finding in the DOJ report is that Biden’s DOJ prosecutors knowingly withheld evidence requested by the defense counsel, furthering the call for accountability.

“That's why I have introduced the First Amendment Accountability Act. It would hold federal employees liable in damages for injunctive relief and for attorney's fees if they violate any one of our five pillars of the First Amendment,” Hageman says.

The pillars include the freedom of religion, speech, press, petition and assembly.
