Trump is threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act to deal with the violent angry mobs that have occupied the streets of a residential area of Minneapolis who are trying to impede Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from rounding up dangerous illegal alien criminals. According to the Associated Press, Trump made the threat after a federal officer shot a man in the leg on Wednesday after being attacked with a shovel and broom handle.
The Insurrection Act of 1807 is a series of different statues created by Congress through 1792 to 1871, informs the Brennan Center for Justice. It allows the president of the U.S. to deploy federal troops domestically under specific conditions, mainly to hinder rebellion or domestic violence. The president has the power to send troops upon the request of a state or against a state’s wishes if the requirements are met.

Robby Starbuck, conservative social media activist, posted on X that the ICE situation in Minneapolis will set a standard for the next 10 years — either rioting and criminality or law and order. He wrote that, without apology, the Insurrection Act should be invoked and that the military should arrest rioters and politicians, while ICE and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) do their job to maximum efficiency.
“This must be put down so thoroughly that the far left extremists can’t effectively recruit people in other left wing cities to replicate the chaos and criminal behavior. Draw a clear line, now,” stated Starbuck.
RedWave Press posted on X that Scott Jennings, a conservative political strategist and commentator at CNN, reminded that Trump said he was going to mass deport illegal aliens when he entered office.
“He ran on it and he's doing it. And he's going to be the president for the next three years, and they're going to continue to do it,” said Jennings. “To me, the greatest question here is, why does it and why is it that Democrats in the state of Minnesota believe that they should be immune from or not applicable to federal immigration law that has been on the books for years?”
Bob Maginnis is a national defense analyst and president of Maginnis Strategies, LLC. He reaffirms that the Insurrection Act allows the president to deploy federal troops domestically to restore order.
"So of course, it raises concerns about federal overreach and civil liberties, and it will be contested in the courts," states Maginnis.
However, Maginnis points out that all the ICE agents are doing is removing criminal aliens from the streets.
"Trump allegedly has removed 400,000 of these criminal aliens that Biden let in that it's becoming a political liability for the Democratic Party. Therefore, people on the Democratic side are pushing back,” says Maginnis.
As for Trump actually using the act, he says that “we’ll have to wait and see.”
“I think Trump will do it if given the opportunity. Even though they've surged ICE by the thousands and others into the area, there continues to be disruption, and it does appear as if you have professional agitators involved," states Maginnis.
