The Christian community is being called to unite in prayer for Israel's peace, prosperity, and protection and to stand in unwavering support for the nation.

Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council (FRC) are organizing the upcoming prayer event.

"Sunday, May 19th is going to be Pray For & Stand With Israel Sunday," he reports. "We want to see as many churches as possible across the country taking at least a few minutes … of praying for Israel."

Perkins got the idea after speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"He wants to see the churches standing with him," the FRC president shares. "They are asking for our prayers and for our help. I told him, 'Mister Prime Minister, we may not agree with everything that you do, but we're not going anywhere, because we're People of the Book, and we know what Genesis 12 says: Those who bless you will be blessed.' We believe that this modern-day Jewish state is a revival, a reconstitution of the Jewish nation."

Perkins calls it an opportunity for Bible-believing Christians to stand on the Word of God.

So far, partners in the effort include former Representative Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota), Dr. Tim Clinton (American Association of Christian Counselors), Carlos Duran (National Hispanic Pastors Alliance), Jack Hibbs (Calvary Chapel Chino Hills), Mat Staver (Liberty Counsel), and Tim Wildmon (American Family Association).

Leading up to the event, individuals and churches can sign the pledge:

I commit to praying for and standing with Israel. As a member of the body of Christ, I am committed to promoting peace, justice, and solidarity among nations; and recognize the importance of fostering strong bonds of friendship and support with the nation of Israel. I join with other believers, individuals, and communities across the nation in solidarity and prayer for the peace, security, and prosperity of all of Israel.

A media kit is also available to anyone who wants to help spread the word.
